Free Golf Carts (a rant by JDM)

Many golf carts qualify for the federal governments electric-car tax credit,
which covers up to 2/3 of the cost of the vehicle. In an attempt to "go green" Congress has produced another brilliant piece of legislation. Ironically, these golf carts, like other electric vehicles, don't even reduce pollution as the electricity needed for their operation comes from fossil fuels (burning coal). Maybe some day they will, but considering our countries financial situation it seems like a silly time to be giving out unnecessary tax credits.

One dealership has made this offer:
Buy a golf cart for $8,000, get a $5,300 tax credit off your 2009 income tax, lease it back for $100 a month for 27 months, then we'll buy back the cart for $2,000. "This means you own a free golf cart or made $2,000 cash doing absolutely nothing!!!"

When I read this I thought "I should tell Juli's dad to take advantage of this" (Her dad repairs and sells golf carts). But I realized that would just be adding to the problem. I shouldn't, nor should I encourage others to, take advantage of our government's irresponsibility.
